Tips for Building Trust

  1.  Send congruent verbal and nonverbal messages.  Behave in ways that you condone.
  2. Be consistent in your behavior.
  3. Trust others. Trustworthy people tend to be trusting people.
  4. Enforce policies and procedures uniformly, no matter what level of genius or productivity a particular person offers.
  5. Encourage members to admit mistakes, offer apologies, and accept them graciously.
  6. Promote candor, whether the news is good or bad.
  7. Support people who ask for help or admit ignorance.
  8. Focus on goal accomplishment, not who gets the credit.
  9. Offer help outside your area of responsibility. Concentrate on the team winning, not personal victory.
  10. Give each other honest, balanced feedback on both content and behavior.
